Roles has been a relatively new feature in Teradata. Before that, access rights were typically handled using databases.

I would like to hear from the community on how they have implemented security on access to data to the warehouse. Do you have a mixture of roles and databases? Do the roles and databases map to subject areas / domains or job function or both? Do you use nested roles? If you have databases, do you have same views (same DDL) in multiple databases? Are there any risks in fully relying on roles for security (and place all views in 1 single database)?

This question is targeted to Data Warehouse implementations (versus collection of data marts on a single Teradata platform, where security is often easily managed at each data mart level).
