Subj:   Diagnostic HELPSTATS Vs. Statistics Wizard

I have been using "diagnostic helpstats" for a while to see stats recommendation and then choosing carefully based on confidence indication. Also, I avoid multi column stats having too many columns which might only help that particular query or so and are expensive to collect compared to single (or two) column stats.

Now I would like to start using Teradata Statistics Wizard which is meant for recommending statistics. My expectation is that its way of analyzing the query and recommending the stats is different from "diagnostic helpstats" method.

Surprisingly I found no difference between stats recommended by both methods which only confirms (to me) that Statistics Wizard is internally using "diagnostic helpstats" only.

I am interested in more accurate stats recommendation which saves a whole lot of time for the developers/dbas.

Does anyone have any good experience with this tool or any other better means of arriving at accurate stats requirement.

By the way, we are on V2R6.1.1

Thanks in advance.
