Subj:   Ratio of reserved space to data space

From:   fachtna.c.donovan

Hi,

We are currently doing a space review on our Production Teradata system.

Our current environment is a 6.3TB system, of this we have reserved 1TB for Spool and 1TB for the DBC database (TJ, accesslog etc.) this leaves about 4.3TB for "real data". This is a ratio of about 32%

I'm aware of the problems of that can happen by reducing down this ratio such as queries spooling out, extra mini cylindere packs, transient journal running out of space etc. and we are putting procedures in place to monitor spool and TJ useage. However we are wondering what sort of ratio other sites reserve for spool/tj on their production systems as reducing this ratio down to say 20% would give us extra 750GB.

Thanks,
