Subj:   Re: Cache in teradata?

From:   Diehl, Robert

Anon,

There all kinds of things that can cause one query to run longer. I have listed a few.

1) Query is blocked.

2) workload on the system is more so resource contention/swapping is occurring.

3) Query is run in different workload. This also assumes there is resource contention.

4) Query might be the same but the underlying data has changed.

5) Query is the same but data demographic changes cause the plan to change.

6) Request Cache is used. Time here will be small, but can be very important for sub second tactical queries.

7) Dictionary contention is preventing parser to resolve permissions for the query.

There a couple more, but would have to do some research to state them correctly.

Thanks,

Bob Diehl
