Subj:   Re: Fastload + INS / SEL or MultiLoad

From:   Christian Schiefer, makeITdone

Hi,

normally I prefer to load into an empty table in a staging area. You can use both ( fastload or multiload ) for this action. With multiload you have some better debugging information available ( e.g. recordnumber of record, which did not fit into the layout ).

Your concerns about the final "INS/SEL" step:

1.) 20.000 rows/day is not that much ( I don't know about the size of your installation, but even if it is an SMP single node, I would not expect any performance problem )

2.) I don't know what kind of data you are loading, but if it is a "transaction like" table, it is very likely that you have some date information in the record. If you use PPI and you have the "date" column as part of your (U)PI, then you will not see any performance impact even if the base table is growing and growing. ( I know sites, which are "INS/SEL" about 20.000.000 rows/day into a 8 billion row table (row size about 2000 bytes).... )
