'Connection has been reset by peer' usually means that the session has been lost - possibly due to a network problem. (If a DBA had aborted the session it would tell you that it had been aborted.)

It seems odd that it occurs only when you use TDAdmin though. You say you can connect OK with SQL Assistant (I assume you mean before using TDAdmin)... how about after the TDAdmin error.

Both those applications use the same (ODBC) connection method - and virtually identical connection code.

Also, what version of the demo are you using, and are the tools (TDAdmin and SQL Assistant) the ones provided on the demo disk?
