Subj:   Re: How Do You Measure/Validate Compression Savings?

From:   Barner Eric

There are do it yourself Compression Tools that have been written Macros & Procs, and I believe posted here in the forum archives.

I adapted one to my own needs and achieved 22% weighted average savings at a cost of only a few weeks of my time, Coding and Implementation included.

Given that 2 weeks of my salary costs my company less a "Tool" , and the savings in dollars (in my case) amounted to Over $300k.

I haven't seen the value of having a tool, unless you have money to burn, and no time.

Check out the forum attachments, I believe the code is still out there.

Also, the tools are handy and fast to production time, but offer less control and custom capabilities than IHMO feel they should for the staggering price.

Regards,

Eric Barner
