As stated earlier, an ODBC application may have changed the column type to CHAR(26).

If so you have 2 options to re-create the table:

a) use BTEQ

b) use an ODBC app, but disable parsing. (In SQL Assistant you do that by unchecking the option "Allow use of ODBC SQL extensions")
