We had a similar situation.

The way I implemented it was by creating a PPI on the base table.

I then had each partition read from the view based on the range.

I also had a "Select All" from the base table which will have entire base table information. This way the user does not have to do a union of all the partitions if he/she wants to get all base table data. It worked pretty well for us so far.
