Subj:   Re: How to connect to SQL Server Database through Bteq

From:   Victor Sokovin

On the other hand, bteq is available on the IBM mainframe platforms, perhaps this is what you have read. There is another tool called ITEQ - which is the mainframe equivalent of queryman. And I use the term equivalent loosely. From my limited experience, it is like comparing "edlin" to word (well maybe wordpad :-) ).

Iteq has always been a mystery to me. Last time somebody asked about it on the Forum no answers were posted. Its time is probably almost over and shops still using it should give a free demo to all interested parties.

But I think I have found the thread I had in mind:

OK, it was not Bteq but rather Multi- and/or FastLoad, and the solution was not direct but via a gateway or additional modules so I guess this settles the issue.

My belief in DB2 connectivity, especially in the early days of Teradata, might have been supported by a theory that Teradata pioneers were inspired by the IBM standards of that time. What else, if anything, would inspire them? But this is just a speculation.

It would be great to hear from the real pioneers on the Forum about the early days and how the story started.

Regards,

Victor
