Subj:   Re: Troubleshooting Teradata Client Connections

From:   Dempsey, Mike

There have already been a number of suggestions on this topic. One more thing you can do to improve logon time (Applies to CLI but not sure if it also applies to ODBC.) is to create an environment variable for each system.

For example, if you have a system called 'prod1' which has 5 PEs attached to your pc network, you would create an environment variable 'prod1' with a value of '5'.

This will cause cli to look for addresses for 'prod1cop1' thru 'prod1cop5' but NOT for 'prod1cop6'. Since it may take up to 20 seconds for the attempt to find (the non-existant) 'prod1cop6', this long delay will be avoided.

(Without the environment variable it will continue looking for 'prod1copN' [N=1,2,3...] until it gets a failure.)
