Subj:   Chopping character strings into component parts

From:   Bolton, Andrew

Hi,

I've a 3rd party supplied field (the format of which cannot be changed) called 'Customer Name', this potentially contains title, initial or forename and surname, for example my name could come as:

     MR A BOLTON
     MR ANDREW BOLTON
     ANDY BOLTON
     MR ANDY BOLTON

     etc

I'm used to dealing with these issues in SAS but need to design something in teradata SQL which will populate a table of:

     Title
     Initial
     Forename
     Surname

for Data Quality Assurance.

Does anyone have any recommendations of functions or approaches I can use, along the lines of substr, index, etc?

Any help very much appreciated,

Kind Regards,

Andy
