Subj:   Re: Disk Space overhead?

From:   Victor Sokovin

Daniel,

The Disk Capacity (free and used) seen by the database (MAXPERM) can be calculated approximately as total spinning disk less raid overhead and file system formatting overhead:

  Spinning Disk Space Capacity * Raid Configuration (i.e R1 = 0.5; R5/RS = 0.75) * 0.915 (File System OS Overhead Factor)

This formula is approximate as the File System OS Overhead Factor varies dependent on the detailed configuration but is approximately 8.5%.

If you have time to look at the figures on

www.teradatalibrary.com/pdf/pricing.pdf,

could you please comment on them? I guess they include the mirrored drives.

What are the factors then?

Regards,

Victor
