Subj:   Re: Disk Space overhead?

From:   Victor Sokovin

I am curious if anyone knows what accounts for the disk space that is lost once a system is configured. For instance, if you have 12TB of spinning disk attached to your Teradata system and configure it with RAID 1, you would think you'd have 6TB of available disk space but in our case it's about 500GB short. I've always heard this referred to as system overhead. Does anyone have a better explanation of this "Overhead"?

A bit of googling has yielded this pricing matrix:

www.teradatalibrary.com/pdf/pricing.pdf.

I have no idea about its validity but it at least gives an indication of what is involved in the "Actual User Data Capacity" calculation.

Your figures look actually too optimistic!

Regards,

Victor
