Maybe I'm just being dense, but I'm not sure I understand what you're saying.

What I've done thus far:

1) Tried the original posted query (Standard join with a less than and a greater than)

2) Tried a between instead of the less than and greater than

3) Tried using a WHERE clause instead of a JOIN clause

All of these work when only one part is done (though of course not the between as you need an upper and lower)
