Subj:   Re: Use of Multiset for Large Table

From:   Victor Sokovin

Good to see this support for the multiset tables. I see two main applications for them: 1) performance boost for the ETL processes on end-user tables and 2) data manipulation in staging areas. As already pointed out, the former comes together with extra quality assurance procedures in the ETL process itself and beyond it. The latter is nice for "visualizing" the original incoming data and making data transformations in ETL more transparent to users.

I think multiset tables are almost inevitable with active DWH, where data load is non-stop, and every minute saved matters.

Whether this contradicts relational theory is irrelevant. The theory has failed to provide alternative solutions so it should become more flexible to the best practices as they are now.

Regards,

Victor
