Agreed... Also, more generically, certain business type problems are particularly well served by iterative type processes. While set based solutions are also often possible for these types of problems, they can be overly complex and often inefficient in comparison... In my view, stored procedures, cursors, etc. are all concessions to the real world RDBMSes have to live in...
