Re-read the prior response. You are using multiple ESCON connections between the mainframe and Teradata, and the data transfer will automatically be spread more or less equally there. What I said was that you can only use one ESCON between the mainframe and the backup device ("virtual tape"), so no matter how fast your backup device is you're limited to around 30GB/hour for each job.

Fibre channel can theoretically be more than 20x as fast as ESCON. (In which case, speed of your backup tape or other device will probably be the limiting factor.)
