Subj:   Re: Incremental Backup

Hi Prasanna,

You will be required to enable permanent journalling to do the incremental backup. Incremental backup is very much supported by Netvault. I am not sure of Netbackup and Tivoli. ARCMAIN is the utility that will be used by the backup application to archive the journals.

If you are using Teradata DEMO version, then you can not increase the size of the database or simply DBC.

If you are using Teradata for Windows then the approach will be as follows:

First understand that adding space to database is nothing but increasing the physical space managed by the AMPs in the system. This space is also termed as PDISKs. So, when you want to add more space to the system, you will be adding the raw disks (not formatted by OS) in RAID-0 or RAID-1 to the Disk Array. Then PUT (Parallel Upgrade Utility) is run to make necessary PDISKs out of these newly added disks and configure the system adding new AMPs managing these new PDISKs. And then RECONFIG is run (by PUT) to redistribute the data across all the AMPs (old and new). Note that the amount of space managed by each AMP should be the same within a System.

I think you will require Teradata Personnel to implement this for you as it is a hardware change control process.

Hope the above helps.

Pranav Sankar
