Subj:   Different Data Types and Performance

From:   Anomy Anom

What does Teradata have to do, under the covers, when comparing or joining on two different data types?

ex: CHAR to VARCHAR, INTEGER to DECIMAL, CHAR(4) to CHAR(5), byteint to integer, date(yyyy-mm-dd) to date(yy/mm/dd)

1) DO these examples cause performance decreases, extra work like "translations"?

2) Does it do trims, etc.....?

3) What is the performance benefit for having all of the same column names the same data types throughout the Data Warehouse?
