Subj:   Re: Standard Deviation

From:   Victor Sokovin

I'm looking for the standard deviation of the values of a column in a teradata table. Does Teradata have a standard deviation function? If not, any suggestions on how to do this?

The functions are: STDDEV_POP and STDDEV_SAMP.

I saw a posting in the TeradataForum.com archives ( www.teradataforum.com/teradata/20040227_110908.htm ) from Feb 2004. I was not clear on the final result and I was wondering if there has been an update over the 18 months since that posting.

The discussions in that thread and the one which was quoted in it were about the typo in the documentation. It looks like TD always calculated the deviation correctly but some users were confused by the incorrect formula in the documentation. I see that the formula is now correct in the latest edition of the documentation. If you would like to find out more on these and all the other functions in Teradata, read the "SQL Reference: Functions and Operators" manual.

Regards,

Victor
