I am teaching a utilities class at a Teradata site and something happened that I have not seen in 10 yrs of working with Teradata. I am at a loss to know why it is happening and therefore wondering if any of you have experienced the same thing.
Situation: when we export DATA a date column from a table into a flat file using a batch script, the date is expanded as YYYY-MM-DD. There is a FORMAT on the column definition in the table, but it is YY/MM/DD. The INTEGER column is binary and the DECIMAL column is packed.
Yet, when I export DATA from the same table using BTEQ interactively, the date is the expected 4-byte binary value.
We were able to Fastload the file, but only after using CHAR(10) in the DEFINE. Just not anything I have ever been required to do previously.
Any ideas or experiences that you care to share which might shed some light on the odd situation would be greatly appreciated.
