I have used MS Access to create queries with Teradata and SQL Server, it is not very efficient and I often find myself moving the SQL Server data to Teradata and doing the query on it.

When you join tables across databases the data from one side has to be moved to the other side for the join to work. With small tables it will work (10-100k rows) more than that it's slow.
