Subj:   Re: Difference between allocation and performance group

From:   Ballinger, Carrie

A session's queries are assigned to a performance group, which is established at the time the user logs on. This assignment happens based on a performance group name that must have previously been placed in the User record account string for the user who initiated the session. The performance group does not carry the priority information, but rather links the user's queries to an allocation group which does, depending on how the administrator has set up prioriy scheduler.

The allocation group is the priority scheduler construct that carries the actual priority that controls frequency of access to CPU. All processes working on behalf of a query on a given node will be under the control of the same allocation group, even though they may be doing work on different AMPs.

Thanks, -Carrie
