From:   Dempsey, Mike

I would be suprised if a single copy of Teradata Manager server could use that much cpu even if you had all the data collections set to collect at 15 min intervals.

Some collections such as collecting Space Usage (for all databases/users/tables) every 15 mins would be excessive - Space is more normally collected daily or weekly, and usually not for every database object.

Similarly, the collection of ErrorLog information can be a high impact if done too frequently.

When I said that it might account for a lot of cpu I was thinking of someone having accidentally requested collections at 1 minute intervals... although 15 mins is still very low for most data collection types. (No problem for Monitor type data though.)

I doubt that a single application could consistantly suck up 70% of your Teradata system though.

The collection frequencies should be set differently for different types of data. Collecting everything at 15 mins (or 1 hour) probably does not make sense.

You mention that the collected data has not been 'cleared' for a long time. I would expect that to have minimal impact since we only insert data to these tables rather than select from them. If the same is true of the source tables though (such as dbc.sw_event_log, or other dbc tables) that could cause performance problems.
