Subj:   Re: Source data for Multiload!!!

From:   Dennis Calkins

Hi,

I don't know about the SQL reference manual not being updated. If you find something not documented please contact the GSC and have them open a DR.

Also we try to keep the ONLINE help up to date.

You can type

     Help 'sql'

to get a list of the SQL statements we have help on.

     help 'sql create table'

for example to get specific help on Create table. besides SQL there is ONLINE help available for

     ARCHIVE
     BULKLOAD
     DUMP
     FASTEXPORT
     FASTLOAD
     MULTILOAD
     PMPC
     SPL
     SQL
     TPCCONS

MERGE/INTO is ANSI syntax and allows querys from other tables.

When I was the release architect for V2r4.1 we implemented Update/Insert in a very specific way to improve TPUMP performance. It was really meant for NEW data being added to system via TPUMP as opposed to adding data from a daily table into a weekly table for example. I don't think it supported selecting data from existing tables.

It was basically a stop gap measure until the real MERGE/INTO command implemented in v2r5.
