If you have a nusi on the date, the optimizer should find a way to use it instead of doing a full file scan. But you should run an explain to make sure.

If you have a PPI and the date is the partitioning column and each partition is for a day, the optimizer can just drop the partition for the date. Almost as fast as delete all.
