Subj:   Re: Any V2R6 Success or Horror Stories

Keep in mind that V2R5.1 is a patch release and has no new real features and creatures. Something like that is bound to be more stable then R6.

Allow me to politely but firmly disagree on both points.

Minor releases like 5.1 contain feature code of two kinds: 1) things that are built on the dictionary changes added to the prior major release (5.0) and 2) features planned for 5.0 that did not make code cutoff for whatever reason.

I don't know 6.0 is better or worse than 5.1, but I can only hope it would be better. V2R5.1.0 was a very poor release for us because of stability problems, even though we waited 6 months after GCA to install. We chose 5.1.0 because we wanted multi-role capability, but we'd go to 5.0.3 if we had it do over. The system has stabilized at this point (5.1.0.29), but we're probably going to have a "trailing edge" upgrade policy in the future.
