I had this same error returned when running a query in BusinessObjects 6.5. I figured out that cause was a view that had an empty string constant ('') [used as a place holder for a future column]. I replaced that with a space (' ') and then it worked.

I was able to use the empty string constant view in SQL assistant, just not in BO, to I believe this is an issue with BO and ODBC.

I know that is not your exact problem, but it may be a place to start.
