Subj:   Long Connection Times with newer ODBC driver?

From:   McBride, Michael

Have any of you experienced this problem:

"Currently the newer ODBC driver (3.03.05) is installed on the server. Database connection is much slower ( around 20 seconds) with this driver. The older ODBC driver (3.02.10) connects much faster (about 4 seconds). If we revert back to this version we could save time between the prompts (maybe as much as 10 seconds between each one) as well as potentially 15 seconds on the final report."

This is a quote from our BI analyst. He is seeing dramatic increase in connection time with the new driver (we are on V2R5.1). We have tried 3.03.07 as well, and I have noticed the increased time to make a connection with SQL Assistant (QueryMan).

I thought I heard somewhere that the connection performance might be improved using an environment variable, but maybe I was dreaming. I can't seem to find anything about it in the manual?

If anyone is experiencing this problem and knows anything about how to speed up connection times with the driver, please drop me a line or post to this thread.

Thanks,
