Subj:   Re: Record count stored in Data Dictionary

From:   Coffing Christopher L

In regards to this inquiry.... I am interested in the real root question about row counts.

Is this a management request for metric and reporting purposes? I have seen several responses to this thread and I can't stop wondering if we are trying to solve the right problem.

The answer to the question is NO... The record counts are not stored in the data dictionary.

But I am more interested in the underlying reason for row counts request.

I can see potential benefits for having up to date row counts for:

Capacity Planning

Growth Trends

Metric Reports

Determining large/small tables

ect...

Good... Now I can let this go... Looking forward to more responses...
