An obvious exception is recursive type of INSERT ... SELECTs where the table is both the target and a part of the source. Some developers even
like them within one transaction. The situation I mentioned was one of those "chain" INSERT cases. Statistics did play an important and sometimes
unpredictable role here. For not too large tables it definitely helped to have no stats at all.
