BLOBs are new to the Teradata world but you should be able to access the information like you would with an Oracle or SQL Server solution. The BLOBs are stored in the database but you still need the application to reconstruct them into something useful.

Sure. Even Oracle and SQL Server do not yet play back MP3s. Or do they nowadays?!

I don't want to hijack the topic but as BLOBs are such a rare subject on the forum or indeed in real-life applications I thought I should add some probably completely irrelevant bits.

I have recently come across a piece of audio equipment meant for home usage (not professional purposes). It offers the storage of 1TB! The owner can transfer the CD/DVD collection to it and have easy access to it from anywhere in the house. I could not help thinking about Teradata when I was reading the specs. If TB-level storage becomes a common thing with simple home entertainment, there could be, potentially, interesting professional applications in this area as well.

TD seems to leg behind in this market segment.

Regards,

Victor
