Subj:   Re: Stats on Volatile table -- Possible??

From:   Michael Larkins

Hello Venkata:

I am curious where you found the reference to collecting statistics on a volatile table in the Unleash the Power book that you referenced. I used the electronic versions of both the second and third editions of the book to do a find on the correct use of the "collect statistics" command and also the incorrect use as "collect temporary statistics" that you referenced. After looking through chapter 18 on collecting statistics and also through chapter 19 which addresses the creation and use of all temporary tables (volatile and global) within Teradata, there are no references to "collect temporary statistics" and none that indicate collecting statistics on a volatile table.

Is it possible you mis-read or mis-quoted the contents of the book?

If not, I would greatly appreciate you pointing me to the page number and edition that contains the erroneous example to which you are referring.

Thanks in advance.
