Teradata is "shared nothing" so marking one AMP fatal does nothing to the rest. You won't see a problem until some request tries one "fatal" AMP, then tries its fallback buddy for the row but finds it "fatal" also. Or if you try an "all AMPs" request that does not utilize fallback.

The problem is also detected during tpareset because at that time there is mutual coordination between AMPs to verify the system configuration.
