I've heard people say its possible to use CAST instead of CASE. They say its of use when there are too many conditions.

For eg: If I have a column full of numeric values and need to categorize them into intervals like

<500,501-1000,1001-1500,1501-2000...all the way upto 1 million, how do I do it?
