Subj:   Re: SQL Assistant History Question

From:   Dempsey, Mike

Currently SQL Assistant stores the history in an Access 95/97 format database.

In the next release (SQLA 7.0 in TTU 8.0) you will have the option of selecting Access 95 or Access 2000. (The first is much more compact but does not support unicode data, so I made it an option.)

A newer version of Access (I use XP 2003) should have no trouble reading the 'old' SQLA history database. As you say, it may ask you if you want to convert it, but you can read it without converting it - you just cant modify the table definition. (Which you definately dont want to do if you still plan to use it with SQLA.)

Installing a new version of Access should not prevent SQLA from reading the history database - Access will not change this file unless you open it and ask to convert it.

If you do convert the file, don't convert to anything higher than Access2000 unless you have also downloaded the latest version of Microsoft JET 4.0. This will be included as part of SQL Assistant 7.0 - so that version will be able to read all Access versions up to 2003.

If you do want to create a new (empty) history database you can simply move/rename/delete your existing one and a new one will be created next time you launch SQL Assistant.
