Subj:   Re: Function "Monthname" in SQL Assistant

From:   Victor Sokovin

Michael,

I've been away from my email for a couple of days and I have just read your reply.

I only responded to what was written in the original question: "heading comes back as monthname"

I don't know where your quote comes from but that's what I have received in my mailbox in the original posting in this thread:

"In SQL Assistant, I am using the function monthname in my SQL. It works very well, but in the resutls, the month name is written in English and I want it in French(if it's possible). Is there a way to do that?"

In this text, I for one cannot see any indication of problems with headings, which you seem to have addressed in your first reply, so that's why I expressed my doubt as to how your reply could help with the question of the OP.

If you have a better solution than anyone else including me, in the future you might just go ahead and post it rather than criticize anyone on the list.

Are we trying to help others or criticize answers that we do not understand, do not like or do not read thoroughly?

My reply was not intended as criticism. I just thought you answered a _different_ question and I wanted to return to the original question. Don't you think that that was a step in the direction of helping others?

Your contribution surely has its value but, in my opinion, it belongs in another thread.

I did suggest two simple alternatives. I surely did not present them as the "better than anyone else' solutions" . By the way, that's been my usual habit on the list. I let others form their opinions about my contributions.

I personally appreciate corrections of my postings made by other members. Such corrections mean that the list member has taken the trouble of reading the message and was thinking about it. Isn't that something to appreciate? I think so.

Anyway, I hope this addresses the misunderstanding my message might have generated.

Regards,

Victor
