Subj:   Iinitiating Parallel processing from Queryman

From:   Ken Hansen

Has anyone experienced erratic performance on Teradata v 5 in respect of parallel/serial processing of Multi-Step_Requests (MSRs)?

An MSR submitted for overnight parallel processing, to insert into an empty table, failed and the third step took many hours to roll back. My client's DBA then advised that MSR's must be initated via BTEQ rather than Queryman, or wrapped with BT/ET. Is this a misunderstanding?

I can prove parallel processing of some short MSRs but the documentation appears ambiguous. Is there a way of checking whether the request was actually submitted for parallel or serial processing?
