Subj:   Re: How to print heading one time only in a BTEQ query?

From:   Scott Thompson

You posted the same question a couple of weeks ago and received a few suggestions. What is the difference this time?

there is no difference. none of those suggestions will work for what i am trying to do. plus, i keep holding out belief that there must be some way to accomplish this. see, i can have multiple customers reports contained in one file. so for example, i will have a heading containing customer #1's name, then 100,000 rows of data, then a pagebreak when i get to customer #2 and a new heading with that customer's name in it and then that customer's data and so on (this is why the suggestion of concatenating a heading and report file together will not work). i have a utility later in the process that splits out the unique customers'reports from the one file. but it will only work correctly if there is just 1 heading per customer. surely i am not the first person who has encountered this requirement and there is not presently a solution ?? it seems to me that this would be a relatively common situation.

if there isn't a known solution, may i humbly propose a new bteq command to the teradata architects - something like .SET SINGLE HEADING (YES/NO) [within pagebreak constraints].

thanks,

-scott t.
