Through the NCR Partners ( An organization of Teradata Customers ) you have the ability to submit a Teradata Enhancement request.

Then once every six months a group of customers sit down and prioritize which enhancements they feel Teradata should persue to make the product better for all the customers.

There is no guarentee that all recommended ehancements are made but we try. In v2r4.1, the release I managed, we were able to inlcude 9 Partner enhancement requested features. UDF's in 5.1 was a Partners enhancemnet request as well.

Currently there is no way to track which functions are being RE ENGINEERED at every customer to the point that we could filter the most widely used functions to the top and release them as a Teradata Add-on either bundled or as a separate orderable product.

Our Profession services team has implemented a set of Oracle/DB2 compatible functions.

However I belive they are only being 'sold' to new customer installations which are migrating from Oracle/db2 to Teradata as part of the migration services package or as part of other Professional services engagements.

I don't know if there is a way to 'purchase' these libraries from the profession services organization directly.

Also, will there be "partners" that maybe offer " suites" of UDFs for sale?

Any of our current 3rd party vendors ( or new ones ) are more than welcome to persue this if they wish and I would encourage it.

Would it be feasable or even intersting to us (or some of us) to work together on UDFs and share them? Other common functions I could think of would be 'Is number?', 'Is character?', etc. With one word, functions that allow you to check if a cast will be sucessful easily. I'm sure there are a lot more functions out there that could benefit more than only one site. And I don't like the idea of each of us re-inventing the wheel

Teradata Forum has a repository for attachments, maybe you could encourage the List administrator to maintain a repository of UDF's.

However, be aware that having a repository of FREE UDF's might discourage 3rd party vendors from creating their own.

I posted an

is_integer

example to this list in Decmeber.

I left off the code in the middle but that is easy enough to add and then by changing the code in the middle ( and the name of the UDF ) you can easly add

is_alpha
is_character
is_numeric/is_number
