I'm glad to hear you're looking at the explains. The reason I brought them up is that I didn't hear you mentioning them. I got the false impression that you were not using what I consider to be the most important query analysis tool.

You're absolutely right that there is no harm in explicitly including a term that you might expect to be derived through transitive closure. The point I was making is that until 5.1, if you have only inner joins and if you use ansi syntax, you may get fewer trasitive terms than you would have gotten had you used non-ansi syntax.
