You might want to do that kind of cleansing outside of TD, especially if the volumes are high like in CDRs. If you really are restricted to the database then one of the recent threads might be useful:

Yet another, and very new, way of doing this in TD would be to write your own UDF (User Defined Function) but I cannot recommend them because I still have to get my hands on them and gain more experience.
