Subj:   Teradata Open Source Project CLI#

From:   Matthew Winter

Hi,

Over the past 2-3 months, I have been working on .NET library, called CLI#.

CLI# is a set of classes, written within C#, to provide direct access to a Teradata RDBMS. By this, I mean you do not require the Teradata CLI, Teradata ODBC, Teradata OLEDB or any other piece of software installed to login and query a Teradata RDBMS.

This library is "work in progress" and at present provides the functionality to Login, Execute a Request, Handle the returned parcels from a request and Logoff.

The initially library is designed to provide access to a Teradata RDBMS in the same manner as the CLI does. This gives you impressive performance, and total control of the connection.

On completion of the CLI# library, the plan is to write a Teradata Data Provider, which utilises the CLI# library. Providing high level access, using the standard ADO.NET framework, but in 100% managed code.

I would like to release the CLI# library under a dual license, similar to the one used for the MySQL database. The dual license will provide a full 100% GPL license for all GPL projects and a commercial license for a commercial projects.

What I would like to be able to understand is:

1. Would anyone like to participate in the development?

2. What people think of the release under a dual license?

3. Other Teradata OSD projects people would like to see?

A separate mailing list will be setup for the discussion of development of the CLI# library.

Regards

Matthew Winter
