Very interesting. I hadn't thought about sampling.

But I don't think what you quote from the manual contradicts what I said earlier. What it says is that we can use statistics - if present - to do a better job of sampling. I don't think it indicates that we look at secondary index subtables when collecting statistics.

Would you agree with that?
