Subj:   Re: Sample sql programmer training documents for teradata?

From:   McBride, Michael

Bruce,

I still have some PowerPoint training presentation material I produced for the Telco model (Telco v 4.? LDM) for the NCR EMEA staff a couple years ago. It is useful for the base model, however, if you have implemented a highly customized model, it may not be of much benefit...and would probably need to check with NCR, so as not to violate any NCR proprietary information rights?!

FYI: I was one of the primary authors, aided by a few people from Sage Communications (later acquired by BSG) of the original Telco model that NCR purchased the rights from Per-Se Technologies (formerly BSG way back when) and I helped the NCR Teradata Division-Woodbridge team make revisions and updates to later releases (I missed the early 3.x versions where John Hanni and Mette Lundhoj added the wireless facets, but I was engaged for the 4.x versions of the Telco LDM) so I am co-listed with these and other developers on the NCR patent application for that model as well as other CRM models such as the Airline Transportation LDM and the Healthcare Insurance LDM. The training material I produced presented the core CRM facets as well as the industry specific facets of the LDM solution.

Just as an aside, I entertained a job offer from Cingular in Atlanta, as a Data Architect, about two years ago during the early implementation of your Data Warehouse and had previously worked for about eight months in Dallas at SBC Wireless during their initial phases of the Enterprise DW prior to the merger with BellSouth Mobility and the advent of Cingular Wireless. I decided to take a slightly better offer (full relocation package) from my present employer and the rest is history...but I still like to hear how the Telco model is doing as far as implementation is concerned. I used some of the sales presentation material of the Telco model for the NCR EMEA training and also used a scaled down version for a web-based training class for NCR that was reviewed by Sprint Canada (or was that AT&T Canada ?:-~?).

Anyway, let me know if you want to pursue getting the material I have, at least as a starting point for your training document project...

Also, I'm somewhat curious that you have not considered using the metadata document that you should have received on the same CD as the Telcom model from NCR. As I recall, we had to produce extensive entity and attribute data definitions while at Woodbridge, which were then converted into a ".pdf" document and packaged with the model prior to releasing each version to NCR's Teradata Professional Services group. Could you not use this as a stating point as well?
