Subj:   Re: Unable to run Visual Explain with SQL Assistant

From:   Dempsey, Mike

Visual Explain will only be available on the menus after you connect to a Teradata data source. It will be disabled after you disconnect. (There must also be an entry in the registry that tells SQL Assistant that Visual Explain is installed on your PC. This entry changed at some point so it will not detect older versions of Visual Explain. Make sure you have version 3.0, or higher, installed.)

I will leave the other question to the VE folks as it appears to be something in VE itself.

You can simulate the invocation of Visual Explain by entering the following command from the Windows 'Run' dialog:

\vecomp.exe -ie -c \ -d -q ""

or

\vecomp.exe -ie -c \ -d -f

where

is the directory path to the Visual Explain executable
is the Data Source Name (containing a UserId)
is the password for that user
is the QCD database to use
is the Query you want to have explained
is the name of a file containing the query to be explained

Note that the \vecomp.exe part will have to be in double quotes if the path contains any space characters.
