Colo,

There is currently no such function in Teradata.

We requested something like this as an enhancement request nearly two years ago. The response from NCR was that this is really difficult as the current error message is generated on a very low level and can not be hand over to higher level. Therefore the request was shifted to the PAC. I don't know the current status there.

An additional comment was that these kind of checks can be programmed with user defined functions - V2R5.2? I wasn't very lucky with both answers as we are doing some of the transformations of classical ETL processes in the database (sometimes more a ELT process) and therefore it is getting a real boring job to check all kind of possible errors in the data with the current functionality. I believe that UDF can overcome this issue but I hope that NCR is providing these functions as a standard package for all customers. I do not think that it is wise if every checks for valid dates, number etc. with its own written UDFs. It's nice to be able to add customer specific checks but I don't want to programm the check for an valid decimal or date on my own.

I would be interested how other customer see this issue.

Ulrich
