Subj:   Re: Will an Index be used with Derived Tables

From:   Michael Larkins

If you read the entire text of my first reply, I apologize that you were confused by the statement regarding the optimizer's decision on whether to use a secondary index. This, as stated does not apply to SPOOL and therefore applies to permanent and global temp tables only.

The other part of my original reply indicated that a derived table is materialized in SPOOL. Therefore, you are correct in that Teradata will not use a secondary index for any access of a derived table, because there are no secondary index definitions in SPOOL.

Best regards always,

Michael Larkins
