Subj:   Re: Timeout using OLEDB and Microsoft Analysis Services

From:   Claybourne Barrineau

Craig,

I think you'll find MSAS's OLEDB for ODBC connection to be faster and more reliable than using Teradata's OLE DB driver...odd.

Otherwise, I hear some third party ODBC drivers exist on the market which can read text files (with Column Headers...Microsoft's text reading ODBC driver does not read column headers.) If you can get a hold of one of this, then fast exporting to a text file with Teradata then Bulk Importing from Text File via MSAS would be the way to go. If you cannot get a hold of one of these drivers, try loading a Oracle or SQL Server table from Teradata, then using MSAS's Bulk Import.

Also, it's much quicker to load MSAS fact tables when they have been optimized not to join to the dim tables during load time.

Thanks,

Clay
